Matt Spring
MLB Hitting Analyst, 19 Pro Seasons
Matt Spring was born and raised in Peoria AZ. He has a son Bo, 11, which keeps him busy playing multiple sports. Him and his son currently reside in Columbus Ga. Matt attended Cactus high school where he lettered for 4 years, and was selected to the All State Team in 2002 and 2003. He went on to play 1 year of Junior College baseball at then Dixie State College, now Utah Tech. In 2004 the Rebels won the junior college world series in grand Junction Colorado , and Matt was selected as the tournament MVP.
The Tampa Bay Rays drafted Matt in the 4th round of the 2004 Amateur Draft as a catcher. Shortly after Matt signed with the Rays and began his playing career. He went on to play professionally for 7 seasons with the Rays, followed by 5 seasons in the red sox organization. His career spanned 12 years.
Throughout his pro career Matt also played in the Arizona Fall League and the Dominican Winter league. After his playing career Matt went on to be a hitting coach in the minor leagues for 5 years and then took a position in the Anaheim Angels front office as the major league hitting and catching analyst. In that position Matt worked together with Jeremy covering all aspects of hitting, scouting reports, hitting mechanics, as well as using all forms of technology (trackman, force plates, biomechanical sensors, blast motion, Hawkeye, rapsodo, edgertronic cameras).
Throughout his coaching career Matt committed himself to being the best hitting coach that he could be getting certified in biomechanics of the body, as well as neuroscience. Matt specializes in the biomechanics of the swing, building relationships with hitters, and video analysis
He also works with catchers on the full aspect of the position from receiving and throwing to game calling and staff management. His hobbies are golf, and watching his son compete at sports.
